“Nothing Wrong” is a song that had an interesting life to it. When I originally wrote it, it was a series of random thoughts that I had written down in my songwriting journal after a breakup with an on again-off again girlfriend I had in my 20s. I’m not sure I’d ever actually expected those thoughts to formulate themselves into a song, but it sat with me for a bit.
As I continued to ruminate over the relationship, the chorus came together in one of my more frustrated moments, and it really glued those random thoughts that I had scribbled down together. As much as I loved the idea, though, I didn’t really think it was going to become a song that it became.
As I played it for people, though, it started to land with them in a lot of ways. Some people would tell me stories about their relationship with their parents. Some people would tell me stories about past relationships with friends and significant others. Some would tell me stories about their relationships with themselves. It was really remarkable to see the way that this song touched people, and it seemed fitting to include it as a part of my story on Stories from an Old Set of Strings, and ultimately now release it as one of my full band remakes.
